Welcome to A Star Named ("we", "us" or "our"). These terms govern your use of our website and the purchase of our commemorative star-naming service.
We provide a commemorative naming service for real stars: you enter the date, time and place of passing, the system computes the zenith of that moment using standard astronomical algorithms, and identifies the real star nearest the zenith in the HYG catalog (merged from Hipparcos and other real catalogs) that is still unnamed. You assign that star a memorial name and receive a digital archive (a dedicated star page, real astronomical data, a 3D view of that night sky and visibility tracking) and a downloadable certificate PDF. The service is delivered digitally only; there is no physical product.
This is a commemorative, sentimental service. The star is real, but the name is symbolic only: it is not recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU) or any official body, and it does not confer ownership, naming rights, or any exclusive claim to the star.
The service is available to individuals aged 18 and over. When you place an order you warrant that your email, name and other details are true, accurate and complete, and you accept responsibility for fulfilment issues caused by incorrect contact information (such as not receiving the certificate or recovery links).
Guest checkout creates a customer record for your order email. Registering an account lets you manage your orders and stars in one place.
Placing an order constitutes your agreement to pay the amount shown on the order page. Payment and refunds for Digital Star ($19.99) are processed by Waffo Pancake as Merchant of Record.
Once payment is confirmed, digital entitlements (star page, certificate) are available immediately; the service is digital only, with no physical delivery step.

Website content, certificate layouts and brand assets belong to A Star Named or are used under license.
We grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use your star page and certificate for personal commemorative purposes, including sharing the link.
The service is commemorative in nature and provided "as is". Astronomical data is derived from the HYG catalog; we strive for accuracy but are not liable for errors, omissions or consequences arising from such data.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect losses, lost profits or data loss, and our total liability does not exceed the amount you paid for the affected order.
If you breach these terms (including providing false information or abusing the service), we may suspend or terminate your orders and access; paid orders are handled under the Refund Policy.
These terms are governed by the laws of the seller's place of registration (see the Contact page). If any provision conflicts with mandatory local law, the mandatory law prevails.
