★ REAL STARS · ETERNAL MEMORY
A real star. A real moment. A forever memorial.
For someone you loved — or a beloved pet
Real star catalog data · Certificate with coordinates
Give us the moment and place you said goodbye — we rebuild the sky that stood overhead and find the real star at its zenith.
The only inputs you need: when and where you said goodbye.
Astronomical calculation finds the coordinate exactly overhead at that instant and place.
From over a hundred thousand real catalog stars, the one nearest the zenith is chosen.
We don't randomly assign a star. We find one.
Identified from real astronomical data — verifiable coordinates, distance and magnitude.
Calculated from the exact date and time you give — or approximated by that day's local sunset if you don't recall it.
The sky is rebuilt from where you said goodbye — the same minute in a different city gives a different star.
The star is real. The memorial is yours.
From the method and the data to the truth about naming and reading the certificate — every step laid open.
Fly to their star and look back at the true layout of that night's sky.
A print-ready 300 DPI map of their star and the real sky around it.
Mobile and desktop wallpapers that keep their star where you will see it.
A lasting record of their name, that moment and the real data — return any time, share it with family.
Certificate preview — you will receive the version with real data
is hereby granted a commemorative record of a real star
This naming is a commemorative gesture only and is not recognized by the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
Astronomical data: HYG catalogue (J2000.0). Generated by A Star Named.
The certificate is an A4 international-style document (English), with a unique QR code and astronomical data source notes
Not by chance — by calculation: given the time and place of passing, the system computes the zenith (the point straight above) of that moment, then finds the real star nearest to it in our catalog — the one you see is genuinely the closest unnamed star overhead at that instant. The free preview stays valid for about 24 hours; once you order, the star is held for you for 7 days, and the naming is completed when payment clears.
Yes. Every star comes from the HYG catalog (merged from Hipparcos, Gliese, Yale and other real catalogs) with real coordinates and distance. It is a real star that exists in the night sky.
No. The star is real, but the name is a symbol we give it — commercial naming services are not recognized by the IAU. That is the honest part: you are buying meaning, not astronomical naming rights.
Yes. Pets are family too — naming a star for a pet works exactly the same as for a person: enter the moment and place they passed and find the star nearest the zenith of that moment. Choose "a pet" and add the species; it is shown on the memorial record and the certificate.
Use the local sunset instead: after entering the date and place, tap "Don't recall the exact time — use the local sunset" under time precision. We compute the true sunset of that day and place with a standard astronomical formula (solar lower limb 0.833° below the horizon) and find the zenith star for that moment — deterministic and reproducible, no guesswork. If that day has no sunset there (polar day or night), the form asks you to use an exact time.
No commitment. Discover their star first — it is computed before your eyes.
